I started writing my "Music For Insomniacs" pieces back in 2009, when some members of my family were dealing with insomnia. I was inspired to compose pieces of music that I thought might be able to help them to relax and sleep. Here is my original description of the pieces as posted on my website at illustriousmusic.com:

"This page is dedicated to a collection of acoustic ambient compositions I am writing called "Music for Insomniacs." These pieces are composed on no more than three staves and have no specific instrumentation, so that they can later be orchestrated as needed/desired by the performers. They will each be slow in nature (otherwise how could someone fall asleep to them), and generally five to ten minutes long."

For obvious reasons (it's generally not good for performers to have audience members fall asleep during a concert), these pieces were never really intended to be performed live (although one of them has). Recently I was home sick in bed and one of my kids left YouTube up and playing, and it was then that I realized the proper medium for these pieces. I spent some time finding and editing sounds that I felt would work well for the concept and made the recordings. It is my hope that these pieces will be enjoyed as listening music, background music, and best as music to fall asleep to.
